Both the reading passage and the lecturer discuss about various air purifiers. The passage enunciates the advantages of using various air filters, whereas the lecturer casts doubts on their usage.
First, the passage depicts that HEPA filters can be used to remove allergens like dust or pollens which allows only the cleaner air in the environment. Even though the lecturer agrees the fact that the filter could filter large particles but it will fail to filter smaller allergens like viruses and airborne chemicals which are less than 0.3 millimeters. They are sufficient enough to make the air obnoxious and that is why the lecturer refutes the statement.
Second, the lecturer elucidates that ozone generating air purifiers are dangerous when generated with high concentration. It could harm the skin, eyes and lungs when it gets in contact with the humans. Also, it does not have any benefits other than removing unpleasant smells. However, the passage provides conflicting ideas on the same mentioning that the filter can remove unplesant smells and airborne chemicals which the lecturer does not agree with.
Third, the passage states that the UV air purifiers removes harmful bacteria and microscopic particles in the air allowing people to enjoy fresh air. But, the lecturer contradicts the statement saying that they cannot filter dusts or allergens and even they failed to filter out the cigratte smells and unplesant gases. Employing them does not improve the quality of air at all.
