The table illustrates the detailed information on the subway structure and usage in six major cities of the world over a period of more than one century.
Overall, the oldest railway system was in London with the most lengthy route, whereas, Los Angeles was the recent one to introduce the railroad and Kyoto had the smallest route length. Although Paris and Tokyo commuted about half or less of the route length than London, these stations had the most commuters per year.
Given a close look at the data, the subway system of London inaugurated in 1863, almost 135 years before Los Angeles. This station also covered the longest commute area of about 385 km and every year 775 million passengers used it which was 15 times of Los Angeles. However, Kyoto had the shortest length of the route and fewer commuters per year (11km and 45 million respectively).
On the other hand, the rest three railway stations were built throughout the 20th century. While Paris's rail track was surpassed about 44km, Tokyo had over 700 million passengers more than Paris per year.
