The table indicates the figures of the British families possessed consumer durables from 1972 to 1983.
At first glance, there was a significant increase in telephone in Britain, from 42% in 1972 to 77% in 1983, an increase by 35% for more than 10 years, followed by central heating, only 39% in 1972 to 64% in 1983. By contrast, the least upward trend belonged to dishwasher, just 3% in 1978 to 5% in 1983 and this number was the least compared to other consumer durables of the category. Television was responsible for the leading figure, with 93% in 1972 and 98% in 1983, although there was only five percentage increase during this period. The second place was ranked by vacuum cleaner, 87% in 1972 to 95% in 1982, a rise by 8% during a decade, whereas dishwasher was accounted for the smallest data, just starting at 3% in 1978 to 5% in 1983. Particularly, video had not appeared until 1983, after that it constituted for 18% in 1983.
It is concluded that British families used television the most, followed by vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, dishwasher was the least figure.
