The bar chart displays of firms with social media presence from 2012 to 2016
In general, all three sectors recorded the highest figure in 2016. It can also be seen that the use of social networking sites is more common among large businesses.
Nearly 30% of small businesses used social media for business purposes. This figure rose in the next two years to reach 35% in 2014. Despite falling to 30% in 2015, it surged to reach an all-time high of nearly 50% in 2016. In terms of medium business, the proportion for this sector saw an increase from over 30% in 2012 to nearly 50% in 2014. After declining to 30% in 2015, this number soared to exceed 50% in 2016, staying behind that of large businesses.
It is apparent that large companies have the most significant social media presence with the percentage of firms using these platforms remained consistent at over 75% from 2012 to 2014. After seeing a period of decrease to around 53% in 2015, it skyrocketed to hit a peak of nearly 80% in 2016.
