In some countries, people are no longer allowed to smoke in public and office places. Do you think it is a good rule?
There is no scope for any doubt that "Smoking is injurious to health ". Taking this into consideration, in some countries, the governments have enforced rules that prohibit people from smoking in public and office places. I believe this is a good rule for the following reasons.
First of all, smoking does not only play havoc to the smokers’ health but also the ones who are excessively and regularly exposed to the smoke from cigarettes. In fact, it is a scientifically proven fact that nonsmokers get more health hazards compared to the smokers. Various diseases like asthma, lung cancer, pneumonia, tuberculosis, stroke, and other heart and valve ailments are commonly found in such individuals. This is why banning smoking in public and office places is an effective move to preventing dangerous diseases.
Secondly, heavy addiction to cigarettes smoking can have a lot of adverse effects on smokers’ work and life. For example, smokers may neglect their work because they can’t resist the temptation to smoking. They may also be aggressive to their wives and children if they are not given a cigarette to smoke, causing family violence. More seriously, to feed their addictions, smokers may also get involved in social evils. To have money to buy smoke cigarettes, they may risk money on gambling, become robbers and other kinds of criminals.
In addition, smoking in public places like schools, parks, shopping complexes, beaches, offices etc. tend to develop a strong desire among young generation to inculcate this habit. To nurture a healthy young generation, we should support the idea that public smoking should be banned.
Last but not least, smoking has a lot of detrimental effects on the environemnt. The substances and smoke from cigarettes are supposed to contribute to the deterioration of the air. They may also penetrate water resources, entering aquatic ecosystems and become extremely toxic to fish and other marine creatures. Apart from that, if a cigarette is inadvertently left burning, it can cause a forest fire, destroying animal and plant species’ habitats and driving them to the brink of death.
Based on the aforementioned reasons, I believe it is a good rule to ban smoking in public and offices. This not only helps smokers to quit smoking but also ensures public health and protects the surrounding environment.
