Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they respond to the specific points made in the reading passage.
Both the reading passage and lecture discuss whether aquaculture also know as fish farming should be supported to prevent overfishing and pollution. The former discusses the reasons to adopt fish farming, while the latter diagrees to each to the reasons provided by the passage.
Firstly, the passage asserts that aquaculture can preserve coastal area by keeping the area clean and control pollution. Fish farming areas are built near coastline and requires clean water to work. While the professor contends that fish farming alters the ecosystem in many harmful ways. The land used for industry or farming now used by fish farming can affect habitats on many poeple.
Secondly, the passage states that fish farming can solve unemployment problem in many poor areas. Because, fish farming needs many workers to work harmoniously with a little training. Whereas, the professor mentions that fish farming in fact makes many poeple unemployed. People near the fishing areas depend on fishing as the source of food and sell fishes for income. If fish farming is initiated in that area only some people will be able to help in fish farming while majority of people will remain unemployed.
Lastly, the text asserts that fish farming can help to preserve many of the depleteing speices of fish. If many fish farms are supported then depleting wild spicies of fish can be replaced and prevented from being consumed. This can help fish to regain more species and prevent from overfishing. While, the proferssor mentions that fish farming requires fish to feed. The fishes of farms act as predator and require fishes to survive. This will cause more wild fisj to be extinct.
Thus, due to above three reasons the professor thinks fish farming is not an effective approach to prevent over fishing and pollution.
