Preventing Birds from Injuries Due to Glass
Both the reading passage and lecture discuss about the measures to protect injuries to birds resulting from the use of regular class, as the building material in the modern times. While the author suggests three specific strategies to protect the harm on birds, the lecturer challenges the proposition made by author. In his opinion, the solutions will not be efficacious for several reasons which will be discussed in detail in following paragraphs.
The author, in the reading, begins by mentioning that usage of one-way glass through which only humans can see through in face of birds, will be effective. It ultimately prohibits the birds colliding with the building. The lecturer, however, confutes the claim made by author. He states that such kind of mirror will act as a mirror deteriorating the scenario former. The birds will see the reflection of their surroundings--as sky, trees, and so forth. As a result, they are highly probable to interact with the glass unknowingly. Evidently, it falsifies the authors statement.
The writer further asserts that painting the colorful stripes in the glass ensuring the visibility by the inside occupants will not entice the birds to fly towards the building. The speaker questions the writers argument by stating that these opening on the transparent glass after creating stripes will be regarded as open holes by the birds. Consequently, they will be tempted to fly through it. In contrary, if the small size of stripes is marked in the glass, it would be extremely difficult for insider dwellers to see through it; additionally, it also cause the darkness which completely jeopardizes the authors suggestion.
The reading article, finally, posits that employing magnetic field around the building will certainly deviate the birds from coming towards it, since they posses the capability to detect such fields. As opposed to articles opinion, birds generally uses such techniques in travelling to larger distances--for example, travelling from cold place to warm places, and do not use them in short distance. Specifically, they will make excellent use of eye and brightness for such shorter distances. This position is also refuted by lecture.
To summarize, the author and speaker holds opposite views on the favorability of implementation of different considerations to prevent bird from injury due to the usage of glass in buildings which will be difficult for both of them in finding common ground.
