In terms of annual income, California earned the most money in 2000 with $22,711 of total income but possessed the highest rate of people under the poverty line, which accounted for roughly 14.2% of the population. Conversely, Utah had the lowest annual income, with only $18.185, but the proportion of people under the poverty line in Utah was only 9.4% of the population.
