The pie charts below give information about the household expenditure of an average US family in different years.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
Given are the pie charts revealing the number of household payments of the mean US families throughout the period of 34 years from 1970 to 2004.
Overall, it can be seen that childcare receives the lowest expenditure of the total group in the initial year, while people tend to spend on mortgage in the next 34 years.
In the 1970s, the ratio of the mortgage was highest among others, peaking at 26 percent, however, the percentages of food and clothing were little lower, standing at 25 and 22 percent respectively. There was a similar percentage of household expenses witnessed in transport and entertainment categories, which is 13 percent. Following this parallel trend, childcare accounted for only 1 percent which was a smaller number in comparison with other areas.
Moving on the second chart, there was approximately a three fold increase in the number of people spending money on mortgages, reaching a highest point of 50 percent. Despite the increase of mortgage, almost 12 percent of food was spent on household expenditures, compared to about 5 percent of transport and only 10 percent of clothing. In stark contrast, entertainment witnessed a leveling out during the surveyed period, which remained stable at 13 percent. Childcare uplifted significantly by 9 percent to 10 percent in the eventual years.
