The bar chart compares costs of an average house in five major cities during 13 years starting from 1989.
From an overall view, most of the mentioned regions reported a decrease in the prices in the period between 1990 and 1995. However, from 1996 to 2002, there was a significant increase in the prices as London experienced the fastest inflation in house prices over the 13-year period.
In the first five years after 1989, the average costs in London and Tokyo evidently fell by 7%, while in New York a 5% drop was noticed. In contrast, prices in both Madrid and Frankfurt increased by approximately 2%.
Over the following years, between 1996 and 2002, all five cities registered a major growth in the prices. As for London, which marked the greaest trend among the rest of the cities, an average house costs 12% more than its price in 1989. Furthermore, citizens in New York and Madrid had to pay obviously more, with prices rising by 5% in each. Homes in Tokyo, on the other hand, remained cheaper than they were in year 1989, whereas prices in Frankfurt remained stable.
