The passage states that there are convincing reasons to prove that Peary reached the North Pole and provide three reasons. However, the professor mentions that there is no no solid evidence for acceptance Peary claim and she refutes all reasons.
To begin with, the passage says that National Geographic Society did a comprehensive investigation through the records and concluded that Peary had reached the North Pole. The professor refutes this point. She says that the members of that committee were all friends of Peary. They also provided fund and equipment for his adventure. She adds that they investigation was just lasted for 2 days. Consequently, she says that their verdict is not trustworthy.
Second, the passage indicates that his claim was not impossible in comparison with another explorer who traveled the same distance with the same speed and in the same duration. The professor opposes this reason. She says that conditions of the two journies were not the same. She adds that Tom Avery had much less burden which means he traveled faster.
Finally, the passage mentions photographs were taken by Peary to support his claims. In contrast, the professor says that those pictures are for around 100 years ago and faded over time. The shadows were blurred. So it is not possible to find the exact position of the sun. Consequently, those photos are not a trustable evidence.
