The passage applies three critics against ethanol fuel as an alternative for gasoline. However, the professor states that all reasons are not convincing. He believes that ethanol fuel is a good replacement for gasoline.
To begin with, the passage states that utilizing of gasoline can not help the global warming issue since it emits carbon dioxide into atmosphere similar to gasoline. The professor rejects this idea. He says that ethanol does not add excessive carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Because it is often made from corn. As a result, growing corn plants remove the additional carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
Second, the passage mentions that the production of ethanol gas from corn can contribute to the disappearance of food for animals. While, the professor refutes this argument. He says that ethanol extract from body parts of the corn plant which are not eaten by animals. Consequently, the reduction in animal's food is not a convincing reason.
Finally, the passage notes that ethanol fuel can not compete with gasoline on price if the government stops helping producers. The professor says that it is not a valid point. Since, more production will cause a drop in the price of ethanol fuel. He adds that if the production grows three times greater the price decreases up to 40 percent.
