Overall, it can be seen that both towns A and B experienced an upward trend in the services sector, and decreases in the manufacturing field. In addition, the services sector became the main employment in town A, while manufacturing still attracted the majority of working people in town B.
Turning to the chart for the detail, in 1960, manufacturing accounted for 41% of working people in town A, compared to 70% of those in town B. There were about 30% of town A’s labor force working in sales and services fields, which was much higher than those in town B, at 20% and 10% respectively.
By 2010, the services field peaked at 64% of the working population in town A, in comparison with a significant increase in those of town B (25%). In addition, the percentage of people employed in the manufacturing sector in towns A and B experienced a considerable fall at 20% and 53% respectively. Notably, there was a double decline in the sales sector in town A, to 16%, whereas that in town B grew slightly to 22%.
