The first chart below shows how energy is used in an average Australian household. The second chart shows the greenhouse gas emissions which result from this energy use.
The pie charts illustrate the percentages of energy consumed for various purposes and how much greenhouse gas is emitted by an average Australian family.
Overall, heating accounts for the highest energy consumption, yet the most significant proportion of CO2 emitted belongs to water heating. In addition, it is clear that the more energy used, the more emissions are emitted.
In the first chart, 42% of the energy consumed by an Australian family for heating is the highest figure, followed by water heating, at approximately 30%. In contrast, the figure for other appliances accounting for 15%, and refrigeration, cooling, and lighting are the least popular household energy use.
In the second chart, greenhouse gas emissions, water heating, and other appliances are the highest point in terms of emitting gas emissions, with about 32% and 28% respectively, compared with the figure for heating and refrigeration, which are lower, at about 15% each. Besides, cooling and lighting are the lowest point for the product.
