Overall, sodium and saturated fat is mostly consumed during dinner. In comparison, snacks accounts mostly for added sugar consumption.
To begin, dinner provides for almost half of the total sodium intake and consumption of 42% sodium all at once might have a detrimental effect on people’s health. And the other half of sodium is consumed in breakfast, snacks and lunch. The sodium intake at lunch is a bit higher at 28% than the other two, while almost similar amount of sodium consumption comes from snacks and breakfast at 17% and 13% respectively.
Similar to sodium intake, an unhealthy amount (39%) of saturated fat is consumed at dinner. And the rest 61% is consumed in lunch, breakfast and snacks.
On the contrary, 45% of the added sugar consumption comes from snacks only, which can be considered an unhealthy amount of added sugar consumption, while dinner contributes to only 19% of the added sugar consumption. Lunch and breakfast accounts for 20% and 16% of the total added sugar intake respectively.
