The maps detail the changes to the layout of a public library between 20 years ago and present day.
The two diagrams show how the central library changed over a twenty-year period from twenty years ago to recent days.
Overall, it is clear that the original library has become a much more modern and convenient place, with much more cutting-edge facilities and services for readers. Another noticeable feature is the change in the size of almost all rooms in the library.
One interesting change is that the room which is in the south-eastern corner of the library used to be enquiry desk for tickets or book returns, but it now has been replaced by a cafe. If we look at the adult non-fiction area, it has been substituted by the adult fiction area and it has also been shrunk to have space for an information desk and self-service machines. Another striking change is the conversion of the children’s books room into the lecturer room.
On the opposite side of the public library, the reading room full of newspapers and magazines which is situated next to the entrance has been turned into a computer room. Twenty years ago, there was not any space for reference books but at present, there is an area for them located in the west of the library. A considerable change is the transformation of the room that contains CDs, videos, and computer games into a place for storytelling events and children's fiction books. A final interesting point is that it has been expanded wide enough for two big sofas for users.
