After two decades, the number of abroad trips rose dramatically to roughly 53 million and remained the highest figure in the chart. Meanwhile, there was a gradual increase of 18% to approximately 28% in the figure for visits to the UK by overseas residents.
According to the bar chart, in 1999, the country taking the most trips by UK residents was France with roughly 11 million UK visitors, while the figure for Turkey was significantly lower, at only about 2 million UK visitors.
