Essay topics:

The charts below give information about travel to and from the UK, and about the most popular countries for UK residents to visit.

The given line graph illustrates the travel to and from the UK by the UK and the overseas population over a period of two decades starting from 1979 to 1999, while the bar chart compares the most nations visited by the citizens in the UK in the year 1999.

Overall, as can be seen from the graphs, it is clear that an upward trend was witnessed in both visits being made to and from the UK. In addition, the citizens in the UK had a tendency to make a trip to France most in 1999.

Looking more closely at the line graph, in 1979, the number of trips abroad by UK residents was the highest, in the vicinity of 13 million, while the figure for visits to the UK was slightly lower, at around 10 million. After two decades, the number of abroad trips rose dramatically to roughly 53 million and remained the highest figure in the chart. Meanwhile, there was a gradual increase of 18% to approximately 28% in the figure for visits to the UK by overseas residents.

According to the bar chart, in 1999, the country taking the most trips by UK residents was France with roughly 11 million UK visitors, while the figure for Turkey was significantly lower, at only about 2 million UK visitors. At the same time, approximately 3 million and 4 million UK visitors made trips to Greece and the USA respectively. Additionally, there were roughly 9 million of the population in the UK making visits to Spain.
