The graph illustrates the percentage of the urban population in four Asian countries over a half-century period from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for another decade form 2030 to 2040.
Overall, the general trend for four Southeastern Asian countries was upward over 50 years, predicted to extend in the following decades. Noticeably, regarding the first year of the reported timescale, Philippines started off with the highest percentage of the population living in the cities, while Indonesia with the lowest one. The situation will be altered in in the future, in which the percentage in Malaysia reached the peak of the whole graph, whereas that in Thailand hit the trough of the total statistics.
Particularly, between 1970 and 2020, at the starting point of 32%, Philippines saw a plateau in its percentage throughout a decade that then shortly rose by 18% in another decade later. Throughout a dip by 10% from 1990 to 2010, the figures reached the point at 45% in 2020. Malaysia, on the contrary, had its statistics gradually rising to 45% in the first couple of decades, from which they accelerating to 75% eventually. Starting as the third highest, the proportion of urban residents for Thailand underwent a gradual increase by 10%, almost flattening of in the tree last decades of the past period. The most remarkable case went for Indonesia, where the percentage skyrocketed throughout years to 50% in 2020.
Between 2030 and 2040, the statistical patterns similar to those in the previous period will still continue. Philippines will be predicted to reached an end of 50%, whereas Malaysia will surpass other three countries in terms of statistical data at its ending point of 85%. Followed the top position of the figures for Malaysia will be those for Indonesia at the final percentage of 60%. And Thailand will be recorded as the nation that will share the smallest section of figureheads, at 50% in the final year of the whole period.
