Essay topics:

"Some people believe that government officials must carry out the will of the people they serve. Others believe that officials should base their decisions on their own judgment.

Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented."

The governing of a people is the ability to lead and provide for their todays and make room for the needs of tomorrow, whether the people consciously understand this second part or not. Thus, the method employed in tending to all a people desires is not set in stone, it is as complex as it is straightforward. I mostly agree with the prompt that representatives of the people in governance should do as the people requires; However, this is on the bases that these needs and desires are rational and sustainable. I will be expressing this agreement with two main pointers.

Firstly, Democracy, hitherto has been the most preferred of leading strategy is simply the government by the people and for the people. This means that in leading, as the prompt stipulates, official should follow through on what those whom they lead require, ask or agree upon. Take for example in the recent (2024) electing of the President of the United States of American, Trump. It is the duty of citizens to choose their leader by voting their conscience. This was reflective in the vote and House numbers, where Trump won with over 70% voting and the required seat number. This was the people's choice, by numbers. Alternatively, look at Nigeria in the previous 2023 election, where no one is certain how the numbers said what they did. It was obvious that the voting data was altered to sought a minority. As a testament, after the elections, the succeeding events where court cases, riots and many many more. Thus, in not doing the will of the people, will bring about chaos in a society.

Take a look also at this other situation. In ruling a people, the crux is creating a platform whereby the society thrives, businesses succeed, and people have access to most of the amenities they require. Take for example in these two societies, Nigeria and America. The basic requirement of a people are affordable energy, infrastructures, Safety, and affordable health amenity. In Nigeria, where these are lacking, the streets are filled often with rioting, the death rate of the people burgeons daily and there is increasing police brutality, let's not forget the inability to do business. Because these needs are not met, there is no peace Nigeria currently. Whereas in America, where these things are a norm in the society; people have equall access to energy, security, health, amongst other requests. In comparing both society one would conclude that the government officials in Nigeria are not carrying out the people's will, which is even there right, where those in America are. So, there is violation of rights in Nigeria.

However, I do concede that the request of the people is not always reasoning; Thus, the school of thoughts that the officials should serve based on their conscience is valid fpr some scenerio. For example in the providing of energy, people just want cheap energy, regardless of if it's safe for the environment. Thus, the officials doing this would harm our future more. Rather, they should balance accessibility and cost effectivly.

Conclusively, both conscience and doing the will of the people should be effectively balanced; As one cannot holistically stand on its own, rater they are interdependent.
