In this set of material, the article and the lecture disagree on whether the Ethanol gas production would be a good alternative to gasoline in the future for the United States. The reading passage states that it would not be the best replacement for three reasons. The passage believes that it would be harmful to the environment, it would decrease animals' food resources, and it will be expensive in the future. However, the professor thinks that production plants Ethanol fuel would be a great replacement for regular gas, and he rebuffs the three reasons of the article as the following.
Frist, the author, states that the production of Ethanol gas creates global warming via increased the level of carbon dioxide," the greenhouse gas," in the atmosphere which in turn harms the environment. Whereas the professor, casts doubt this idea, he believes that this gas would add a positive advantage to the environment and would not produce the global warming because the source of the green gas is from corn plant and since plants use carbon dioxide for their photosynthesis and growing; of course, they will remove that huge level of greenhouse gas from the environment.
Second, the passage suggests that since corn plants are one of the major sources of animal's food, the production of Ethanol gas from corn plants would noticeably reduce the food resource of animal feeding in the USA. While, the professor, refutes this idea and states that the production of that gas does not necessary to be from corn plants. It could be from cellulose'' cell wall of not feeding plant resources"; therefore, it would never be interrupted the food resources in the future.
Third, the passage claims that the price of that gas in the market would be increased dramatically in the future when it will be in the market. And this would hurt people who get the benefit from the subsidy alternative government gas which saves a lot from their taxes. However, the lecturer opposes this idea, and he suggests that the increase of Ethanol production would not increase the cost of that gas in the future, otherwise, it would make it cheeper<usually the regular gas is three times more expensive that Ethanol gas. This is because it would be available everywhere. The availability would with drop its prices in the market and brings a great benefit for the population.
