Were dinosaurs Reptiles or Endotherms?
In the lecture, doubt was expressed about dinosaurs being Endotherm. The lecturer says that the theory stated in the passage was very different and somewhat inaccurate when it claims that dinosaurs were actually endotherms.
First, in the era in which dinosaurs were living on earth; polar regions were much warmer. The temperature in those areas was higher in comparison with today. Even in winter when temperature was lower than other periods of year, dinosaurs could migrate to warmer areas or they could hibernate. So the first reason stated in passage is not exactly true.
Second, it is true that dinosaur's feet were underneath theirs bodies but it cannot be said that just because of this experiment, dinosaurs were endotherms. Here's a fact that this physical structure can support more weight. As a result, dinosaurs could be very huge creatures which had have a lot of advantages for them. So we can conclude from this fact just the opposite of what was said in the passage.
Third, dinosaurs bones do have Haversian canals, but they also have Growth rings, too which shows in which periods of time, the creature had slower growth rate. Studies show that according to Growth rings, dinosaurs had lower growth speed in cooler periods. Reptiles show increases and decreases in their growth rate during their lives, but endotherms always grow rapidly even when the weather is cool. So the third reason is not quite accurate, too.
