The figure depicts energy consumption and production differences in the US within 50 year period, starting in 1950, with the projections to 2025. The unit used in this figure is in 1 quadribillion of British Thermal Units (BTU) per unit.
In general, the amount of energy produced and consumed had always been increasing since 1950. It can also be noted that the number of energy consumption had always exceeded that of produced, where the gap between the numbers is projected to even be higher in the future.
In 1950, Americans used a slightly over 25 units of energy. The number was increasing throughout the year, reaching a peak of approximately 85 units in 2000. In early 2000s, it would slightly fall to more or less 80 units, before eventually have a significant grow to around 130 units in 2025.
As for the energy production, in 1850 the figure was noted to be 25 units. It steadily climbed following the growth of consumption to approximately 50 units in 1975. Unfortunately, the growth had ever since become less significant, marking the number of more or less 55 units in 2000. It would afterwards reach only slightly 20 units more in 2025.
