The reading and the lecture both discuss sea otter population. While the reading states that the roles of otter very important in the ecosystem and also based on investigating the number of otters become decline by both environment pollution and attack predators especially by predators. The lecture refutes this, saying investment represent predators most likely effective rather than others.
First, the reading claims the chemical pollution the long of coast Alaskan such as oil rigs the main source of killing otters and it causes to life-threatening infection. However, the lecture argues that this idea the otters killed by environment pollution is very weak .On the other hand ,most of the predators attack to otters and kill them and immediately eat by predators.
In addition, the reading makes the argument that the number of another sea mammal such as sea lion and orca decline by environment pollution and the lectures counters this point by stating the orca should change their diet for surviving and it cause to kill otters.
Lastly, the reading passage argues that the pollution not only main cause for declining otter and it should be other factors of the environment to focus environment pollution along the coast. The lecture refutes this claim by pointing that the decline of a number of otters explain better by orcas and definitely environment features such as shallow and rocky location have not declined the number of otters.
