TPO 15- Q1
The article states that the cane toad is native to central and South America, and it was imported to Australia deliberately, in order to protect farmers' crop by eating harmful insects. But toad multiplied rapidly, and now it's threat to native animals. Few way have been suggested to stop toad from being spread, and the author provides three reasons for that. However, the professor declares that destroying toad won't be easy, and it may cause very bad damages to the environment. The professor refutes each reason of the passage.
First, the reading states that building a national fence prevents toad from being spread out to an area that toad has not colonized yet. The speaker refuses this y saying that this animal leaves its eggs in the streams and the rivers and if one egg or one toad go out from the fence through the flow of the stream; leaves the program ineffective.
Second, the reading says, toads could be captured, and killed by volunteers, in addition to that, volunteers can find the eggs of toads, and destroy them. The lecturer asserts that, untrained volunteers may damage the environment by destroying the native frogs of the rivers of Australia; because the frogs are native to that environment.
Third, the passage says, designing a virus that controls the population of toads by preventing them from maturing and reproducing can be useful for out goal. However, the speaker says that some toads are original to the habitat and it kills them. Moreover, this virus may spread in America, toads original habitats, and kill them. The virus may e transported because of the fact that Australia exports this animal to different countries for research, and pet keeping purposes.
