The line graph compares the income differences between two genders in five nations during 40 - year period, from 1978 to 2008.
It is evident that the gap income between men and women of all countries decreased after 1978, except from Australia. There was a noticeable increased in the difference of salary between male and female in Australia after 1998.
In 1978, Japan was the country that has the largest gap income, at approximately 50%. The difference in income of two genders in US and UK was quite similar, at 33% and 29%, respectively. At this time, the gap income of France was only 19%. After 40 years, the percentage of income difference in all four countries declined. These figures in Japan fell to only 41% while the proportion of difference in US and UK was around 27%. France was still the country having the least difference of income, which is only 18% in 2008.
The trend in Australia was a little difference from other nations. From 20% in 1978, the percentage of gap income in France saw a slight decrease to 17% in 1998 and then rose rapidly to 25% in 2008, which was lower than that of US and UK but higher than the difference of France.
