The lecture and the reading both discuss the decline in the frog’s population. The reading states that there are three ways to solve the problem of extinction in frog population. And the lecture refutes, saying that each of the method provided in the reading has a problem and the reading not offer a practical solutions.
First of all, the reading argues that frog’s population decline due to the use of the pesticides. If there is a law prohibits the farmer from using pesticides in an area where frogs live, thus we can prevent the frog’s population from extinction. The lectures opposes this point saying that a law prohibits the farmer from using pesticides is unfair and not economical. According to the professor, farmers are competing to have more crops, if strict rules are applied to some farmers and not applied to others, sever disadvantage will happen and the farmer will got a lower yield and this is not fair.
In addition, the reading states that some fungus caused disease to the frogs, which lead to the decline in the frog population. Applying treatment to the frogs on a large scale will solve the problem. The lectures counters this point stating that applying the treatment is not easy and expensive. It needs to capture and apply the treatment to each frog individually. Furthermore, applying the treatment will not prevent the disease to spread to the offspring.
Lastly, the reading makes an argument that decline in the frog population due to the destruction of the natural habitat. Lake and marches should be protected. However the lecture disagrees. It claims that global warming is the main cause of the extinction of frogs and many other animals. Moreover, protecting the lakes and the marches from human use will not solve the problem.
