The line graph shows the number of product transported in four transport types in the UK from 1974 to 2002. It is obvious from the data that road is the most popular transportation method in this period.
To begin with road and pipeline, there was a fluctuation in road transportation from 1974 to 1982. Then, goods transportation in road increased dramatically between 70 and 82 million tonnes over a decade and dropped slightly below 80 million tonnes in 1995. After that, there was a upward trend in road transportation which almost hit a peak at 100 million tonnes in 2002. For Pipeline, it started at 5 millions tonnes in 1974 which is the lowest point of all transportation. It had a upward trend between 1974 and 1995 until it reached a peak at 22 million tonnes and stayed the same until 2002.
Moving on to water and rail, both of them started about 40 million tonnes but rail was a gradual higher than water in 1974 until there was the same amount of transportation at 40 million tonnes in 1978. Later, water transportation still increased to almost 60 million tonnes and declined moderately over five years and jumped considerably from 52 to 62 million tonnes in 2002, while, rail transportation fluctuated moderately and hit a lowest point at 24 million tonnes between 1978 and 1995. There was a significant growth from the lowest point to over 40 million tonnes.
