The graph below shows the unemployment rates in the US and Japan between March 1993 and March 1999. Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.

The graph provides information about how the percentage of unemployment changed in United States and Japan between March 1993 and March 1999. In general, it is obvious that there were two different trends, including: upward trend and downward trend for Japan and US respectively.

In Japan, unemployment percentages started at 2.5 percent and then doubled in March 1999 while in Us, the percentage of unemployment started at 7 % and there was a slight drop to 5% in March 1999. It can be seen that the percentage of unemployment for both countries reached to the same percent in March 1999. Looking more closely to this graph shows that unemployment rate of Japan rose significantly from 2.5 percent to just under 4.5 percent in the middle of years (March 1996). Furthermore, there was a steady increase in the following years and the number of unemployment remained around 5 percent in Japan in March 1999.

In contrast, for United States the figures show that the percentage of unemployment declined to around 5% and fluctuated around it from March 1996 to March 1999.

In conclusion, although there were inverse patterns for United States and Japan, finally both Us and Japan stood at the same number of unemployment in March 1999.
