Positive and negative view of nuclear power

For more than 50 years we have been in a nuclear age livelihood and this technology has its own pros and cons. Nuclear technology has given different governments the power to destroy the planet. In my opinion I believe that this technology if misused would imply great danger to life on this planet. On the positive side, this technology has also been useful in specific areas of medicine and also a source of energy. We could name a few positive and negative effects in which nuclear technology usage affects our planet.

Nuclear technology if utilized in a negative way would lead to more serious problems. One of the major issues would be environmental and health hazard. For example, if this product is not properly handled and use, it would result to potential nuclear accidents such as atomic bombs. This would produce radioactive wastes and eventually will affect the environment and the health of the people. The Japan nuclear bomb which happened many years ago have wiped out 90 percent of the city’s population and about 20 percent had further died due to radiation exposure. This is a great extent in the danger of life in our planet.

On a more positive note, this technology has a great deal of benefits. Nuclear power plants don’t emit greenhouse gases are not easily destroyed by calamities. These generate many jobs and have low operating costs. Unites states of America uses nuclear as their largest source of clean power. Another field that is using nuclear power and transforming lives is the field of medicine. Nuclear medicine has given new hope to the illness and ailments that are difficult to treat in the form of chemotherapy and radiation.

Dangers connected with nuclear power are in many ways. Radiation is usually the public’s biggest concern and the risks of contacting radioactive material during accidents involving the nuclear power plants or transportation of waste, and even during routine plant operations. However, in nuclear medicine, because only a small dose of radioactive is used, treatments have a relatively low radiation exposure. As a result, imaging procedures such as CT scan, MRI, simple x-rays are basically safe to do.

In summary, nuclear technology have provided our planet its advantages and disadvantages. Although many have already benefit from this, our government should still take into consideration the high risks involved with this energy source.
