The first chart below shows the resuluts of a survey which sampled a cross-section of 100,000 people asking if they travelled abroad and why they travelled for the period 1994-98, The second chart shows their destinations over the same period.
The diagram shows two tables. The first one shows data of foreign travels by UK residents from 1994 to 1998 and their reason for travelling. The second table compares travelling to various destinations during the same period. The sample of this survey consists of 100,000 people.
According to the first chart, number of holidaymakers does not show a regular trend. The number is more in 1994; decrease the next year and increases gradually in the next three years. Number of business travelers show a small rise during the given years. The visitors to family and friends increase from 2689 in 1994 to 3181 in 1998. People who go abroad for other reasons show a random trend ranging from 896 to 1054 in these years.
In the second table, figure of trips to Western Europe is 19371. This quantity grows to 24519 in 1998 with regular rise during this time. Whereas the amount of visits to North America in 1994 to 1998 varies from 919 to 1823.
Overall, the first chart illustrates that the biggest reason for travelling is having a vacation as the difference among the years is larger as compared to all other reasons. However, the second chart proves a steady increase in number of trips to different parts of the world.
