The given information shows the reasons of land becomes less productive and the effects in three different regions of the world during 1990’s period.
It is observed that the principal reasons of land becomes unproductive were over-grazing and deforestation which contributed 35% and 30% respectively. Followed by another important reason was over-cultivation at 28% while other reasons was the least proportion at 7%.
It can be clearly seen that each countries has a different main cause of land degraded. Europe was obtained the highest proportion of total land degraded at 23%. Specifically, the major cause was the deforestation at 9, 8 % when over cultivation acquired 7, 7 % and over grazing was the least amount that cause land degradation in this country with 5, 5 %. In contrast, the Over grazing become the most popular cause in the Oceania which consists with South Pacific, Australia and New Zealand at 11, 3 % while deforestation accounted for only about 1, 7% and interestingly, there was no contribution to make the farmland become unproductive by Over-cultivation in this land. North America become the area with the least percentage of degradation with only 5% land registered by over-cultivation which the main proportion at 3,3% and other slights figures were over grazing and deforestation holds 1,5% and 0,2% respectively.
Over all, Europe and Oceania face the higher problem of land degradation compared to North America. The main cause behind were deforestation and overgrazing by cows.
