The provided chart illustrates the proportion of USA residents living alone in regard to five various age categories from 1850 to 2000.
It is clear that people aged 55-64 in USA always had the highest rate of living alone during the research period. Additionally, all of the age groups saw the increasing trend in percentage of people living alone.
In 1850, there was no people at 17-26 and 27-36 groups who chose this way of living. The figure for 37-46 and 47-54 age groups were equal, at just over 2% compared to the slightly higher that of the oldest group. In 1990, the 27-36 age group existed and people at this age started a trend of living alone with proportion of approximately 2%. While the figure for 37-46 still remained the same, the rate of people aged 47-54 and 55-64 years old who decided to live alone witnessed a little enhance to nearly 3% and 4% respectively.
In 1950, there was a full data of 5 age groups. Almost 2% of USA residents from 17 to 26 lived alone, whereas the figure for three following age groups were still unchanged. In contrast, the rate of people from 55-64 group experienced the significant increase to around 9%. In 2000, the figure of all five age groups doubled. Specifically, 8% for 27-36 group, nearly 13% for 47-54 and around 17% for 55-64 - the highest figure shown in graph.
