The graph below gives information about car ownership in Britain from 1971 to 2007

The line graph shows proportion of households in the UK possessing the number of cars between 1971 and 2007.

It is clear that three or more cars ownership rate was by far lowest during the research period. Additionally, the figure for one car was always at an extremely high level.

In 1971, the rate of households with regular use of no car stood at nearly 50%. Approximately 45% of households had one car in Great Britain, whereas there was only 7% in the figure for two cars. It is uncommon for families to possess three or more cars, so only 1% of households had this number of cars.

During the 36-year period, while the rate of no-car households experienced a significant decline and touched the bottom at about 25% in 2007, there was a little fluctuation in the figure for one car, which still remained the same at around 43%. By contrast, more than two car ownership proportion went up slightly at roughly 5% in 2007, and the percentage of households with two cars witnessed a consistent increase and reached the peek at around 26%.
