Overall, China was the top country that produced and consumed electricity most in 2024 while the United States positioned following. In most of those countries, the amount of electricity generated was higher than the amount of electricity consumed, except in Germany, where the opposite trend was observed.

China was a leading electricity producer with over 5.3 billion kWh in 2014, greater than 1000 billion kWh than the United States. Meanwhile, the amount of electricity used by the Chinese was the highest, approximately 5.3 billion kWh. The United States was the second-largest consumer of electricity, with over 3.8 billion kWh of electricity used in 2014.

The remaining nations exhibited significant disparities between electricity production and consumption compared to China and the United States. Notably, Russia had a minor gap between electricity production and consumption, with only 19 billion kWh. The other listed nations produced and consumed electricity below 1000 billion kWh in 2024. Conversely, Germany stood out by consuming more electricity than it produced, consuming 582 billion kWh compared to 526 billion kWh produced. Korea, in contrast to China, generated the least electricity and consumed the lowest amount, recording under 500 billion kWh.
