The bar chart illustrates the average size of class in elementary schools and lower secondary schools in different countries compared with the world average in 2006.
Overall, the number of students per class in both level of education in South Korea was reported to be the highest. In addition, the difference in Mexican class size in lower secondary and primary schools was the biggest while that of Iceland was completely opposite.
It can be easily seen that South Korea possessed primary and lower secondary schools with the largest size compared to others,which was nearly 38 and beyond 35 students per class respectively. The capacity of each class in Japan was the second highest, at below 30 students in each primary school's class and around 34 pupils in that of lower secondary schools. The number of students in each elementary schools' classroom in the UK and the World average was also high, both of them were 25 students and that of lower secondary school was about 17 and 37 pupils respectively.
In the reported chart, Mexico experienced the biggest difference for 10 students in the class size in two levels of education compared with the rest. The figure for pupils per class in Iceland and Denmark was similar in both primary and lower secondary schools, which were all around 25 students
