Essay topics:

The bar chart shows mobile usage in a country by age group from 1998 to 2000.

The chart illustrates the percentages in the use of mobile phones by different age demographics in a country between 1998 and 2000.

As can be seen from the chart, while the number of children aged less than 15 and the elderly aged 50 and above went through an upward trend, that of 16-to-30-year-olds and 31-50 age group experienced a downward trend. Moreover, mobile phones were used the most by people from 16 to 30 years old throughout the survey.

In particular, over half of mobile users in 1998 were people falling in the 16-to-30 age bracket, compared to 41% of 31-to-50 years old ones in 1998. Similarly, these two groups’ figures decreased, with the former going down to 45% and 44% in the next two years while the latter decreased by 2% each year. However, people aged between 16 to 30 still dominated the number of phone users surveyed in this nation.

By contrast, there was a mere 2% of mobile use by children aged 15 and below, which was only a half of the number for the elderly. Furthermore, the year 1999 saw the same level of these two groups at 8% before the figures increased marginally by 1% for the aged 15 and lower and by 2% for the 50-and-above people.
