The chart and graph below gives information about participants who have entered the Olympics since it began.
The line graph indicates the number of people taking part in the olympics from 1924 to 2012 whilst the bar chart illustrates the figure for male and female participants over the course of 88 years.
Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily evident that there is an upward trend in the number of participants throughout the period. Meanwhile, the bar chart witnessed a noticeable increase in the data for both genders with the figure for male athletes outweighing female statistics.
In 1924, it is shown in the bar chart that there were hardly any women entering the olympics, with just under half of 1000 people, however, the number of male athletes was much more significant, with precisely 3000 people. The figure for both genders ascends consistently in the subsequent years with the data for women leaping from roughly 1500 to almost 5000 by the end of the period. Moreover, the male figure peaked at approximately 6000 in 2012.
Looking at the line graph more closely, a similar pattern can be seen as the statistic soared continuously over the course of 88 years. The most significant increase occurred between 1984 and 2012 when the data jumped from about 6000 to more than 10000 in 2012.
