The below chart and table provide data about the trend of change in population in Japan since 1950 to 2055. A more detailed look at chart, reveals that the number of population has increased till 2005, but then shows a falling trend.

Population of Japan has the maximum number of 127.8 million in 2005, but it felt to 125.4 million in 2015. According to the chart, it will predicted that population experience decreasing trend over next years and will drop to 89.9 million in 2055.

On the other hand, as it can be seen from the table, the number of old people who are over 65 years old, is increasing. In 1950, the number of this group of people was 4.1 million, which consist 4.9 per cent of total population. While, in 2005, they were 25.7 million. Also, the provided information indicate that number of old people will rise dramatically and reach to 37.2 in 2035. Although, in 2055 the number of elderly people would be less than 2035.

All in all, it is clear that population of Japan has boosted till 2005 but since then it fell down and this trend will continue to 2055. In addition, over mention period, proportion of old people increased and till 2055 they will be 41 per cent of total population.
