The chart below gives information about car ownership in the UK from 1975 to 2005.

The line graph given compares the percentage of UK citizens who owned different numbers of cars over the course of 30 years, commencing in 1975.

As can be seen from the graph, the proportion of people having two or three cars experienced an upward trend, whereas a significant decline was seen in those who did not any car. Additionally, individuals having only one car registered the highest figure over the examined period.

In 1975, 45% of the UK population had one car while people with no car took up a smaller percentage, at roughly 43%. In the next of 10 years, there was a gradual fall in the percentage o people owning one car to around 39%, followed by a steady growth to 45% in 2005. At the same period, the figure for people with no car experienced a dramatic drop to 22%.

The people having two cars accounted for 5% in 1975. This figure continued to climb to almost 15% at the end of the examined period. Similarly, a similar trend was seen in the people with three cars rate, which rose from under 5% to nearly 10% in 2005.
