The chart below gives information about how families in one country spent their weekly income in 1968 and in 2018
The bar chart compares the way that households allocated their weekly budget in 2 years 1968 and 2018.
Overall, it is clear earnings were distributed in different demands. What stands out from the graph is that in 1968 the majority of income poured into food supplies while leisure time made up most of the salaries 50 years later.
In 1968, food accounted for the highest percentage of income with 35% in total, whereas the least allocation was for energy such as fuel and power. Besides, the need for housing, clothing and footwear were equivalent to 10%. It witnessed that around 8% was divided for the others consisting of household goods, personal goods, transport, and leisure.
However, the expenditure pattern experienced a myriad of changes 50 years later. In detail, people invested the most massive volume in leisure activities at more than a fifth instead of spending on food like it used to be. The spending for transportation and housing saw significant sharps at doubled up to about 19% and 14%, respectively. On the contrary, the figure for fuel and power and personal goods plummeted considerably from 3 - 5%. Last but not least, the amount of money for household goods stayed unchanged during the given time.
