Essay topics:

The chart below shows annual average spending on clothes per person in the US in 1985, 1995 and 2005.

The bar chart gives information about how much money was spent on four different types of clothes in the United States during the period from 1985 to 2005.
Overall, there were general upward trends in the amount of money paid for these categories over the given period. It is also clear that the expenditure on women’s clothes was higher than the others.
In the first year, 100 dollars was allocated to boys’ clothes, which was equal to that of girl’s ones. After that, the spending on boys’ clothes increased slightly to just around 105 dollars per person in 1998 and remained until ten years later. At the same time, the clothing expenses on girls’ clothes in this country experienced a continual rise to approximately 160 dollars per person in 2005.
In comparison, the spending on clothes for males was much slower than the figure for females, at about 300 dollars and 500 dollars respectively. In the following decade, the expenditure on men’s clothing went up noticeably to nearly 420 dollars before falling slowly by 20 dollars while women’ clothes saw a dramatic growth to reach its peak of over 600 dollars in 2005.
