The chart below shows the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in Newport city center from 2003-2012.

The given chart illustrates the changing rates of crime in the three different categories including robbery, car theft, and burglary in the city center of Newport between 2003 and 2012.

While the number of burglary incidents reduces over time, the number of car theft and robbery cases remains quite stable from 2003 to 2012.

In 2003, there were around 3000 incidents of car theft. Then, it dropped slightly to 2000 cases in the year of 2006 and gradually increased back to 2500 cases in 2010 and hit 2750 in 2012. The robbery incidents also share a similar pattern with those of car theft. The data of robbery cases fluctuate slightly within the range of 500 to 1000 within 9 years starting from 2003.

The number of burglaries was the highest crime among the three different categories in 2003 with almost 3500 incidents. Cases of burglary hit the peak in 2004 with 3750 cases reported and then drastically decrease from 2004 to 2008. There were only 1000 cases of burglary reported in the year 2008. From 2009 onwards, the trend seems to stay stable around 1500 burglary incidents annually.
