The chart below shows the changes that took place in three different areas of crime in Newport city centre from 2003-2012.

The chart represents about how three different types of crime changed in ten year period in Newport city centre. The data is calibrated in years from 2003 to 2012 and number of incidents in each year.

The major area of crime was burglary in 2003 which accounted for 3400 incidents followed by a boom of 400 more acts in next 1 year. Than it has shown a consistent decline for next 4 years and reached to about 1200 incidents in 2008. In 2009, burglary again reported to rise to upto 1400 cases whilst the same number of cases were reported in 4 successive years with slight fluctuations in between.

In 2003, the car theft happened for about 2800 times and the number of casea remained similar for 2 following years when a downfall to about 2000 car thefts were reported in 2006. The cases depicted a constant trend upto 2009 with a slight up and downs followed by a boom to 2600 cases in 2010 and about 2700 in 2012 except 2011 when it was declined a little. The incidents of robbery has shown a slight fluctuating trend throughout 10 years. Initially there were 600 cases followed by a small escalations in following 2 years and a consistent decline in next 4 years. The similar trend was continued upto year 2012 when the equal number of incidents were reported as in 2003.

To sum up, the most happening crime was burglary in first 4 years albeit it reduced to second lowest whereas car theft and robbery represented many fluctuations while didnot changed much in 2003 and 2012.
