The three pie charts show the average percentage intake of three different types of nutrients on four normal meals in the day in the USA, in which excessive intake would be harmful.
Overall, people consume less than one-fifth of those nutrients in their breakfast, which is the least amount, while they are mostly found in dinner and snacks meals.
Regarding sodium consumption, nearly half of this nutrient type is consumed in breakfast meals. Following next was about one-third eaten for lunch meal, the rest 28% of sodium intake is divided equally for breakfast and snacks. The proportions for each meal’s consumption of saturated fat are quite similar to that of sodium, with over one-third intaken in dinner, 26%, 21% for lunch and snack. The rest 16% is eaten in breakfast.
On the other hand, the percentages for the last pie chart are quite different from the previous one. In contrast to being one of the least consumed nutrients for snacks, added sugar comprised of over 40% of this meal. The next meal with the highest consuming of this nutrient is lunch and dinner, with 19% and 23% respectively. Interestingly, the percentage for added sugar consumption in breakfast was quite similar to that of sodium and saturated fat.
