The charts below show household spending patterns in two countries between 1980 and 2008

The pie chart illustrates how families in Britain and New Zealand spent their money from 1980 to 2008.

Overall, households in the UK used most of their income for paying utility bills and leisure, while New Zealander families spent most on victuals and utility bills at the end of a period shown.

In 1980, leisure seemed to be prioritized by English families, which accounted for the highest proportion of their income, at 27%. Moreover, the percentage of spending on victuals and utility bills was roughly similar, at around 50% in total, which took up half of the proportion. By the year 2008, there was a swift rise of 34% in spending on leisure in the UK, and the figure for others category also rose by 2% each, with the exception for that of victuals and transportation, which decreased to 13% and 14%, respectively.

As for the New Zealander, the spending on utility bills and victuals constituted almost three quarters of the portion, at approximately 29% and 27%, in turn, in 1980, whereas the data for others category took up just under 20% of their income, and under 10% when spending on other. Throughout the shown period, in 2008, the percentage of money used for utility bills and other things witnessed a rise of 31% and 11%, respectively, while the figure for food and drink went down by 4% and 1% each with the proportion of spending on transport and leisure.
