The charts below show the percentage of volunteers by organisations in 2008 and 2014.
The pie charts compare proportions of volunteers categorized by organizations in the two years 2008 and 2014.
Overall, the overall trend is for increasing percentages of volunteers to be represented by those working in education, health care and unspecified fields, while the opposite is true for the other three. Also, it is noteworthy that in both years, health care remained the least attractive area for volunteers.
In 2008, nearly a quarter of the total volunteers worked for environment, followed closely by the figure for educational organizations at slightly over one fifth. The year 2014 saw opposite changes for these two, with the former decreasing by 7% and the latter recording an 8% increment.
Art was the second most popular field in 2008, of which volunteers comprised 18% while healthcare was the least prominent, attracting only 7%. However, after 6 years, there was a 6% decline in the figure for art organizations. By contrast the proportion of volunteers in healthcare rose slightly, by 1%. Initially, those volunteering in sport and unspecified organizations accounted for the same percentage (15%). By 2014, a 6% drop was witnessed for sport volunteers while the figure for other fields grew impressively to a quarter.
