Overall, water dominantly used for agriculture in four parts of the world with the exception of Europe and North America, which was mainly consumed for industrial purposes.
Among the 4 areas that used water primarily for agriculture, Central Asia had by far the highest percentage at 88%, and the next biggest consumer of water for this reason, is Africa, with 84%. The figure for South-East Asia is higher by 10%, as compared in South America at 71%.
Europe and North America are the leading areas which allocated the biggest proportion of water for industrial use, with approximately half of their total water supply. By contrast, Africa and Central Asia both comprised the smallest percentage of water allocation for this at just under a tenth. With regard to domestic purposes, South America consumed the most overall at nearly a fifth.
