The pie charts illustrate the percentage of British students from a regional university who were polygots in 2000 and 2010.
After a decade, Spanish speakers still accounted for the majority, followed by bilingual and multilingual students, with an upward trend.
Scrutinizing the year 2000, students who were fluent in Spanish dominated nearly one-third of the chart. Ranked second was learners who capable of using their mother-tongue only, with 20%. Furthermore, pupil who study French and another language both reach the same statical, proven by a mere 15%. Likely to that movement, the figure of German and two other languages also expressed equally proportion, which were also the lowest of all.
Ten years later, surprisingly, the percentage of students who were able to speak Spanish increased notably 5%. The identical trend applied to the figure of two other languages, while German users remained unchanged. Although the proportion of students who knows no other language than English experience a dramatical decrease, it can be consider as a positive development for students.
