The charts detail the proportion of Australian secondary school graduates who were unemployed, employed or further education in 1980, 1990, and 2000.

The pie charts illustrate the percentage of high school graduates who were in three different statuses in Australia between 1980 and 2000.
Overall, the number of high school graduates students that attend for further education was highest in 1980, whereas in 1990 and 2000, about half of those went to work. In addition, the proportion of Australian secondary school graduates being unemployed was not significant over the 3 years.
Turning to 1980, 50% of students participated in higher levels of education, making it the most common choice throughout the year. Subsequently, the figure for graduate students who had jobs accounted for 40%, followed by those unemployed, with only 10%. Regarding the year 1990, the figure for those who chose higher education decreased by 12% but increased by 10% in the percentage of employed individuals. Moreover, it was observed that only 12% of students were unemployed this year.
Looking at the year 2000, the proportion of go-to-work people rose to 55%, while people with bachelor’s or higher degrees and people who opted to stay at home witnessed downward trends in the figures, at 37% and 8% respectively.
